Porto airport: Porto Airport (OPO)
Porto Airport
The airport is in the northern Portuguese city of Porto and is officially called Francisco Sá Carneiro. It was the name of the Portuguese Prime Minister that passed away in 1980 when his airplane crashed. At that time there was a discussion about the question of the choice to name an airport after someone who died in an airplane crash but despite the objections, the name change was carried out.
The airport is 11 kilometers northwest of Porto. When measured by the number of passengers, it is the third largest airport of Portugal, after Lisbon Airport and Faro Airport. In 2015 the airport processed more than eight million passengers. In order to accommodate the growing number of travelers the airport has expanded in the past years.
