Ciampino Airport in Italian is called Aeroporto di Roma-Ciampino. Less known is the name Giovan Battista Pastine Airport. It was originally opened as a military airport, and was opened for civilian use to relieve the Leonardo da Vinci (Fiumicino) airport and to offer space for budget companies and charter flights. In 2015 the airport handled 5.8 million passengers.
