Keflavik Airport

Keflavik Airport is Iceland’s international airport which is approximately 40 kilometers southwest of the capital Reykjavik. The airport was built by the Americans during World War II. It was an important NATO base for a long time, but since the end of the Cold War the Americans have withdrawn most of their troops.

The airport processes two million passengers per year, which are only international travelers. Reykjavik Airport, close to the capital, is for domestic flights.

The currency in Iceland is the kroon (ISK), €1.00 = 86 Icelandic kroon (November 2006).
