Liverpool John Lennon Airport

In 2002 Liverpool Airport was named after Beatle John Lennon, 22 years after his violent death in New York. A bronze statue of Lennon stands in the Departures Hall and on the roof are the words from one of his most well known songs: “Above us, only sky” (from “Imagine”). The airport is one of the fastest growing airports in Europe. The airport did not even process a million passengers in 1998, and in 2006 there were already five million.
